Then his yevamah shall approach him in the presence of the elders, and draw his shoe off his foot, and spit in his face, and respond and say: “Thus shall be done to the man who will not build up his brother’s house.”

Sefaria

Core Text of Chazal

English: Rav Yehudah said in the name of Rav: A sandal sewn with linen — one may not perform chalitzah with it, for it is said “I shod you with tachash leather”; yet the doubled “shoe, shoe” includes (other leather shoes).

On the daf / in context: The shoe must be of leather; the doubled language expands the category beyond the specific tachash.

Type of Learning

Derash from the doubled noun + comparison to tachash.

What Is Learned

The chalitzah shoe must be of leather; a sandal sewn with linen is invalid.
