English: Our Rabbis taught: ‘Threshing’ – just as threshing is distinctive in that its work has not yet been completed with respect to tithes and ḥallah and the worker may eat of it, this excludes one who separates dates and dried figs (whose work is already complete for tithes) and the kneader, the shaper, and the baker (whose work is already complete for ḥallah); the worker may not eat of them.
On the daf / in context: Once the produce has reached the stage that obligates tithing or ḥallah, the worker’s eating right ceases.
Type of Learning
Distinctive feature of threshing (Bavli).
What Is Learned
The worker’s right to eat ends once the produce becomes subject to ma’aser or ḥallah. Subsequent processing stages no longer permit free eating.
