Core Text of Chazal

Core Text
וַהֲבֵאתָהּ – מְלַמֵּד שֶׁלֹּא יִלְחָצֶנָּה בַּמִּלְחָמָה.

English: “And you shall bring her” — this teaches that he may not press her (for relations) while still in the battle camp.

On the daf / in context: The requirement to bring her home first means the soldier may not cohabit with her on the battlefield. All the preparatory acts (shaving, nails, mourning period) must precede any permitted intimacy. The Gemara debates the precise timing of the first permitted act relative to conversion.

Type of Learning

Derash on the verse (Bavli / Sifrei) — sequential requirement derived from “ve-haveisah.”

What Is Learned

A soldier may not have relations with the captive woman while still in the battle camp; he must first bring her into his house.
