כִּ֚י יְהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶ֔ם הַהֹלֵ֖ךְ עִמָּכֶ֑ם לְהִלָּחֵ֥ם לָכֶ֛ם עִם־אֹיְבֵיכֶ֖ם לְהוֹשִׁ֥יעַ אֶתְכֶֽם׃

For the Eternal your God is the One who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

Torah Temimah points to Sifrei Devarim 192.

TT lemma: לְהִלָּחֵם לָכֶם עִם אֹיְבֵיכֶם לְהוֹשִׁיעַ אֶתְכֶם.

Core Text

לְהִלָּחֵם לָכֶם – הוּא נִלְחָם, וְאַתֶּם אֵין אַתֶּם נִלְחָמִים.

English: ‘To fight for you against your enemies, to save you’ – He fights, and you do not fight.

On the daf / in context: The ultimate victory is attributed to Hashem, not to human strength.

Derash on Divine agency in war (Sifrei) — the people are saved by Hashem’s action more than by their own.

Hashem Himself fights for Yisrael; the army’s role is secondary to the Divine deliverance.
