Core Text of Chazal

Core Text

English: “An atzeret to Hashem” — and elsewhere it says “it shall be an atzeret for you”; half for Hashem and half for you.

Type of Learning

Derash comparing the two atzeret verses (TT / Chagigah) — the day is divided between divine service and human rejoicing.

What Is Learned

The seventh day of Pesach is an atzeret whose character is shared: part devoted to Hashem and part to the people’s celebration.
