Core Text

English: "Seven weeks you shall count" — and elsewhere it says "you shall count fifty days"; Abaye said: this teaches that it is a mitzvah to count the days and a mitzvah to count the weeks.

On the daf / in context: Both the daily and the weekly enumerations are independently required.

Type of Learning

Derash on the verse (Menachos) — both days and weeks must be counted.

What Is Learned

In the counting of the Omer one must count both the days and the weeks.
