But only at the place that Hashem your God will choose to make His Name dwell there shall you sacrifice the Pesach in the evening, at the going down of the sun, at the season that you came forth from Egypt.

English: "In the evening" — The Sages taught: The daily Tamid precedes the Pesach. What is the reason? A matter concerning which both "in the evening" and "between the evenings" are stated is deferred to a matter concerning which only "between the evenings" is stated.

On the daf / in context: Because the Pesach is described with the additional term "in the evening," it is offered after the afternoon Tamid.

Type of Learning

Derash on the verse (Pesachim) — the Tamid precedes the Pesach.

What Is Learned

The afternoon Tamid is offered before the Pesach because the Pesach is described with the fuller time-expression "in the evening."
