Core Text

English: "There you shall sacrifice..." — I know only the owner himself; from where do I include his agent? From the verse "and you shall cook and eat." If so, why does it say "there you shall sacrifice"? Because it is improper that your offering should be sacrificed while you are occupied with your work.

On the daf / in context: An agent may perform the slaughter, yet the owner is expected to be present out of respect for the offering.

Type of Learning

Derash on the verse (Pesachim) — agency is permitted but presence is preferred.

What Is Learned

An agent may slaughter the Pesach, yet it is improper for the owner to be absent and occupied with ordinary work while his offering is being sacrificed.
