English: "Bread of affliction" — excluding scalded dough and a large ceremonial cake, which are not bread of affliction.
On the daf / in context: Elaborate preparations that elevate the dough beyond ordinary poverty-bread are disqualified.
Type of Learning
Derash on the verse (Pesachim) — scalded or oversized matzah is invalid for the mitzvah.
What Is Learned
Matzah that has been scalded (chalut) or formed into a large cake (ashishah) does not fulfill the requirement of bread of affliction.
