כִּֽי־יִמָּכֵ֨ר לְךָ֜ אָחִ֣יךָ הָֽעִבְרִ֗י א֚וֹ הָֽעִבְרִיָּ֔ה וַעֲבָֽדְךָ֖ שֵׁ֣שׁ שָׁנִ֑ים וּבַשָּׁנָה֙ הַשְּׁבִיעִ֔ת תְּשַׁלְּחֶ֥נּוּ חׇפְשִׁ֖י מֵעִמָּֽךְ׃

If your brother, a Hebrew man or a Hebrew woman, is sold to you, he shall serve you six years, and in the seventh year you shall send him free from you.

וַעֲבָדְךָ – תָּנוּ רַבָּנַן, עֶבֶד עִבְרִי עוֹבֵד אֶת הַבֵּן וְאֵינוֹ עוֹבֵד אֶת הַבַּת, דִּכְתִיב וַעֲבָדְךָ שֵׁשׁ שָׁנִים, לְךָ וְלֹא לְיוֹרֵשׁ.

English: "And he shall serve you" — The Sages taught: A Hebrew slave serves the son but does not serve the daughter, for it is written "and he shall serve you six years"—you, and not an heir.
