Core Text of Chazal

Core Text
זַרְעֶךָ – זַרְעֶךָ וְלֹא הַלָּקוּחַ.

English: “Your seed” — your seed, and not that which was purchased.

On the daf / in context: Produce bought from another person after it has already reached the stage of liability is exempt from further tithing by the buyer under certain conditions.

Type of Learning

Derash on the verse (Yerushalmi) — purchased produce is treated differently.

What Is Learned

Produce that one has purchased is not subject to the same tithing obligation as produce grown from one’s own seed.
