You shall consign the images of their gods to the fire; you shall not covet the silver and gold on them and keep it for yourselves, lest you be ensnared thereby; for that is abhorrent to the ETERNAL your God.

English: It was taught: An animal that was worshipped, if it was plated, the plating is forbidden, as it is written, “You shall not covet the silver and gold on them and take it for yourself.”

Plating on a worshipped animal is forbidden for benefit; the animal’s own prohibition is mainly for sacred use.
