You must not bring an abhorrent thing into your house, or you will be proscribed like it; you must reject it as abominable and abhorrent, for it is proscribed.
Torah Temimah points to Sotah 4b.
TT lemma: ולא תביא תועבה (unit 1 of 7).
English: “You shall not bring an abomination into your house,” and it is written, “An abomination to Hashem is every haughty heart.” From here R’ Yochanan said in the name of R’ Shimon ben Yochai: Anyone who has arrogance of spirit is as if he worships idols.
Custom (equating arrogance with avodah zarah)
Haughtiness is classed with the abomination of idolatry; the proud heart is treated as denying God.
