Core Text — Bava Basra 111b

English: It was taught: Rabbi Yishmael says, the husband inherits his wife, as it is said “and every daughter who inherits a possession from the tribes of the children of Israel” — the verse speaks of the transfer [of inheritance] through the husband.

Type of Learning

Scriptural source for a husband’s inheritance of his wife’s property.

What Is Learned

The husband’s right to inherit his wife is derived from the language of tribal transfer of an heiress’s portion.
