The Complete Passuk

And it shall be for him and for his seed after him a covenant of eternal priesthood, because he was jealous for his God and made atonement for the children of Yisrael.

English: It was taught: a Kohen who was standing and offering on the altar, and it became known that he is the son of a divorced woman or of a chalutzah — his service is valid, as the verse says “and for his seed after him” — whether fit seed or unfit seed.

Type of Learning

Bedieved validity of avodah by a chalal discovered only in the course of service.

What Is Learned

Once the offering is underway, later discovery of chalal status does not invalidate that avodah.
