And the children of Yisrael, the whole congregation, came to the wilderness of Tzin in the first month, and the people stayed in Kadesh; and Miriam died there and was buried there.
English: It was taught: R. Elazar said, it is said here “and Miriam died there” and there “and Moshe died there by the mouth of Hashem”; just as there by the mouth of Hashem, so here by the mouth of Hashem. Why was it not said of her “by the mouth of Hashem”? Because it is unseemly to say so. From here [we learn] that the angel of death and decay did not rule over her.
Type of Learning
Gezeirah shavah of “sham.”
What Is Learned
Miriam, like Moshe, died by a divine kiss; the angel of death and worms had no power over her.
