וְנָתַתִּ֤י אֶת־עָֽרֵיכֶם֙ חָרְבָּ֔ה וַהֲשִׁמּוֹתִ֖י אֶת־מִקְדְּשֵׁיכֶ֑ם וְלֹ֣א אָרִ֔יחַ בְּרֵ֖יחַ נִיחֹֽחֲכֶֽם׃

אָמַר רַבִּי יְהוּדָה: בֵּית הַכְּנֶסֶת אַף עַל פִּי שֶׁחָרַב אֵין מַסְפִּידִין בְּתוֹכוֹ… וְאֵין עוֹשִׂין אוֹתוֹ קַפַּנְדַּרְיָא… שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר “וַהֲשִׁמּוֹתִי אֶת מִקְדְּשֵׁיכֶם” — קְדֻשָּׁתָן אַף כְּשֶׁהֵן שׁוֹמֵמִין.
English: Even a destroyed synagogue — one does not eulogize inside it… one does not use it as a shortcut… their sanctity remains even when they are desolate.
