Core Text

English: Whence that if his father said “become impure” or “do not return a lost object” he must not obey? From “his mother and his father you shall fear and My Sabbaths you shall keep” — all of you are obligated in My honor.

Type of Learning

Parental command cannot override other mitzvos

What Is Learned

The same principle that protects Shabbos protects every mitzvah: a parent’s order to violate Torah is not obeyed, because both parent and child stand under Hashem’s honor.
