Core Text of Chazal

Core Text — Mechilta (via Torah Temimah)

English: Do not read only “guard the matzos,” but “guard the mitzvos”: just as one does not let matzah become leavened, so one does not let a mitzvah become “leavened”; if a mitzvah comes to your hand, do it immediately.

Type of Learning

Al-tikri reading of matzos / mitzvos — prompt performance of mitzvos.

What Is Learned

A mitzvah that arrives should be done at once, without delay that “lets it ferment.”
