Core Text of Chazal

Core Text — Pesachim 64b

English: Rabbi Yitzchak said: The Pesach is slaughtered only in three groups of thirty people each. What is the reason? [The verse uses] “assembly” (kahal), “congregation” (edah), and “Yisrael.”

Type of Learning

Triple language in the verse yields three successive groups for the slaughter.

What Is Learned

Pesach slaughter is organized in three waves so that “kahal,” “edah,” and “Yisrael” are each represented.
