If a man has a wayward and rebellious son who does not listen to the voice of his father and the voice of his mother, and they discipline him but he does not listen to them,
English: “He does not listen” — one might have thought that even if his father and mother told him to light a lamp and he did not light it; therefore Scripture says “he does not listen,” and it says later “he does not listen.” Just as the later “he does not listen” refers to a glutton and drunkard, so the “he does not listen” here refers to a glutton and drunkard.
On the daf / in context: Ordinary disobedience is insufficient. The youth must be a zolel ve-sove (glutton and drunkard) who steals money to finance his excess, as defined in the continuation of the section.
