וְהָיָ֗ה בְּיוֹם֙ הַנְחִיל֣וֹ אֶת־בָּנָ֔יו אֵ֥ת אֲשֶׁר־יִהְיֶ֖ה ל֑וֹ לֹ֣א יוּכַ֗ל לְבַכֵּר֙ אֶת־בֶּן־הָ֣אֲהוּבָ֔ה עַל־פְּנֵ֥י בֶן־הַשְּׂנוּאָ֖ה הַבְּכֹֽר׃

Then it shall be, on the day he causes his sons to inherit that which he has, that he may not make the son of the beloved the firstborn before the son of the hated, the firstborn.

בְּיוֹם הַנְחִילוֹ – וּכְתִיב וְשָׁפְטוּ אֶת הָעָם בְּכָל עֵת, הָא כֵּיצַד? יוֹם לְתְחִלַּת דִּין, לַיְלָה לְגֶמַר דִּין. מִכָּאן לְדִינֵי מָמוֹנוֹת שֶׁמַּתְחִילִין בַּיּוֹם וְגוֹמְרִין בַּלַּיְלָה.

English: “On the day \ldots” — and it is written “and they shall judge the people at all times.” How is this reconciled? Day for the beginning of judgment, night for the conclusion of judgment. From here we learn that monetary cases may begin by day and conclude by night.

On the daf / in context: Inheritance is treated as a monetary judgment. The verse supplies the “day” requirement for opening the case; the parallel verse in Yisro supplies the permission to finish after dark.
