Core Text of Chazal

Core Text
וְשִׁלַּחְתָּהּ – מְלַמֵּד שֶׁמְּשַׁלְּחָהּ בְּגֵט.

English: “And you shall send her away” — this teaches that he sends her away with a get (bill of divorce).

On the daf / in context: Because she has become a full wife (“ve-hayesa lecha le-ishah”), her dismissal requires a formal get, just as any other Jewish wife. Ramban and Rambam discuss the practical details; Sifrei is explicit that a get is required.

Type of Learning

Derash on the verse (Sifrei) — “ve-shillachtah” implies a get.

What Is Learned

When the soldier no longer desires the former captive, he must release her with a formal get.
