And she shall remove the garment of her captivity from upon her, and she shall remain in your house and weep for her father and her mother a full month; and afterward you may come to her and possess her, and she shall be your wife.
English: “And afterward” — Rabbi Yochanan sent to the rabbis there: You say in the name of Rav that with a beautiful captive they permitted only the first act of relations in battle; but I say they permitted it only after all the prescribed acts, as it is said “and afterward you shall come to her and possess her.”
On the daf / in context: The Yerushalmi records a dispute whether the first permitted intimacy may occur on the battlefield or only after the full process of shaving, nails, mourning, and conversion. Rabbi Yochanan requires the complete sequence; any earlier relations are treated as illicit.
