Core Text of Chazal

Core Text

English: ‘You shall be wholehearted with the Eternal your God’ – walk with Him in wholeheartedness, and look to Him, and do not inquire after the future.

On the daf / in context: The classic Sifrei reading: trust in Hashem rather than seeking knowledge of the future through forbidden means.

Type of Learning

Derash on wholeheartedness (Sifrei) — the verse is the positive counterpart to the prohibitions against divination.

What Is Learned

Instead of seeking the future through diviners and necromancers, one must walk with Hashem in simple trust and wholeheartedness.
