TT #126 · Parashas Shoftim · Third Aliyah · Passuk 18:03
And this shall be the due of the kohanim from the people, from those who slaughter the sacrifice, whether ox or sheep: he shall give the kohen the foreleg, the jaws, and the maw.
Torah Temimah points to Chullin 130b.
TT lemma: מֵאֵת הָעָם.
English: ‘From the people’ – and not from the kohanim.
Derash limiting the obligors (Bavli) — the obligation falls on ordinary Israelites, not on kohanim themselves.
An ordinary Israelite who slaughters must give the three gifts; a kohen slaughtering for himself is exempt from giving them to another kohen.
