You shall not eat leaven with it; seven days you shall eat with it matzos, the bread of affliction, for in haste you went out of the land of Egypt, in order that you may remember the day of your going out of the land of Egypt all the days of your life.
English: "You shall eat matzos with it" — and next to it is written "you shall not eat leaven with it"; this teaches that one fulfills the obligation of matzah only with something that can become leaven. This excludes rice and millet, which do not become leaven but only spoil.
On the daf / in context: Only the five species of grain that are capable of becoming chametz may be used for the mitzvah of matzah.
Type of Learning
Derash on the verse (Pesachim) — matzah must be of a species that can become chametz.
What Is Learned
One fulfills the mitzvah of matzah only with grain that is capable of becoming leaven; rice and millet are excluded.
