For the needy will not cease from the midst of the land; therefore I command you, saying, "You shall surely open your hand to your brother, to your poor and to your needy in your land."
English: "For the needy will not cease..." — Shmuel said: There is no difference between this world and the days of Moshiach except the subjugation to the kingdoms alone, as it is said "for the needy will not cease from the midst of the land."
On the daf / in context: Even in the messianic era poverty will still exist; the decisive change will be political freedom rather than the abolition of economic need.
Type of Learning
Derash on the verse (Shabbos) — poverty persists into the days of Moshiach.
What Is Learned
In the days of Moshiach the only difference from the present will be freedom from foreign domination; poverty itself will not disappear.
