Core Text

English: “Your seed” — something that is sown and grows; this excludes produce that has not reached one-third of its growth.

On the daf / in context: Produce that has not yet reached a third of its normal size is not subject to ma’aser, because it is not yet considered “seed that is sown and grows.”

Type of Learning

Derash on the verse (Yerushalmi) — produce under one-third growth is exempt.

What Is Learned

Produce that has not reached one-third of its growth is exempt from ma’aser.
