The Complete Passuk

Men, base fellows, have gone out from your midst and have led astray the inhabitants of their city, saying, “Let us go and serve other gods” that you have not known.

Core Text

English: “Men” — and not women and not minors. And “men” means no fewer than two.

On the daf / in context: The verse’s choice of the word “anashim” excludes women and minors as the seducers who create ir-ha-nidachas status, and requires a minimum of two.

Type of Learning

Derash on the verse (Sanhedrin) — the seducers must be adult males and at least two in number.

What Is Learned

Only adult males, and at least two of them, can create the status of an ir ha-nidachas by their seduction.
