And you shall offer your burnt-offerings, the flesh and the blood, on the altar of Hashem your God; and the blood of your sacrifices shall be poured out on the altar of Hashem your God, and the flesh you shall eat.

English: “And the blood of your sacrifices shall be poured out” — The Sages taught: From where do we know that bloods that require four applications, if one applied them in a single application, that it atones? The verse states “and the blood of your sacrifices shall be poured out.”

On the daf / in context: The language of “pouring” establishes that even a single application of blood that normally requires four can still effect atonement.

Type of Learning

Derash on the verse (Sifrei) — the validity of a single blood application.

What Is Learned

Blood that requires four applications still effects atonement if applied in a single pouring.
