Core Text

English: “Beside the terebinths of Moreh” — And further on it says (Parashas Lech Lecha), “And Avram passed through the land until the place of Shechem, until Elon Moreh.” Just as Elon Moreh there is Shechem, so Elon Moreh here is Shechem.

On the daf / in context: The parallel language identifies the location of the two mountains with the region of Shechem.

Type of Learning

Gezeirah shavah / linguistic parallel (Sifrei) — equating the two occurrences of Elon Moreh.

What Is Learned

The site of Mount Gerizim and Mount Eival is in the region of Shechem, as identified by the parallel to Avraham’s journey.
