הֲלֹא־הֵ֜מָּה בְּעֵ֣בֶר הַיַּרְדֵּ֗ן אַֽחֲרֵי֙ דֶּ֚רֶךְ מְב֣וֹא הַשֶּׁ֔מֶשׁ בְּאֶ֙רֶץ֙ הַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֔י הַיֹּשֵׁ֖ב בָּעֲרָבָ֑ה מ֚וּל הַגִּלְגָּ֔ל אֵ֖צֶל אֵלוֹנֵ֥י מֹרֶֽה׃

Are they not beyond the Jordan, behind the way of the going down of the sun, in the land of the Canaanite who dwells in the Arabah, opposite Gilgal, beside the terebinths of Moreh?

אַחֲרֵי דֶּרֶךְ – אָמַר לָהֶם בַּדֶּרֶךְ לֵכוּ וְלֹא בַּשָּׂדוֹת וְכְרָמִים.

English: “Behind the way” — He said to them: Go by the road, and not through fields and vineyards.

On the daf / in context: The instruction protects the produce of the Land that is about to become theirs; they are to travel the established road rather than cutting across cultivated fields.
