You must not bring an abhorrent thing into your house, or you will be proscribed like it; you must reject it as abominable and abhorrent, for it is proscribed.
והיית חרם כמוהו. תניא, חליפי עבודת כוכבים אסורין פשוט משום דכתיב והיית חרם כמהו, כלומר כעבודת כוכבים עצמה, הרי דמדבר בדבר שבא מכח העבודת כוכבים, והיינו חליפיה, וכגון אם היה לו עבודת כוכבים והחליפה בחפץ אחר. חליפי חליפין פליגי בה ר' ישמעאל ב"ר יוסי ורבנן, חד אמר אסורין, דאמר קרא והיית חרם כמהו, כל שאתה מהוה ממנו הרי הוא כמהו, וחד אמר מותר, דכתיב כי חרם הוא, הוא ולא חליפי חליפין [שם נ"ד ב']
English: It was taught: Exchange-items of idolatry are forbidden, based on “you shall be a ban like it.” The Sages dispute whether exchange-items of exchange-items are also forbidden.
