English: Resh Lakish said: “Woe, who shall live when God sets this” — woe to one who sustains himself by the name of God. And R. Yochanan said: Woe to the nation that is found at the hour when the Holy One redeems His children — who throws his garment between a lion and a lioness when they couple?

Type of Learning

Two readings of the cry of woe — personal hubris vs. national timing.

What Is Learned

Either the danger is claiming divinity, or being the adversary when Israel is redeemed — both end in ruin.
