The Complete Passuk

And God came to Bilam at night and said to him: If the men have come to call you, rise, go with them; but only the word that I speak to you — that shall you do.

Core Text

English: Rava bar Rav Huna said: Aside from [other teachings], along the path a person wants to walk they lead him, as it is written, “You shall not go with them,” and it is written, “Rise, go with them.”

Type of Learning

Moral inference from paired verses of refusal and permission.

What Is Learned

Heaven facilitates the path a person insistently chooses — Bilam’s desire to go is granted, not his desire to curse.
