And they shall take for the unclean person of the ashes of the burning of the purification offering, and put living water upon them in a vessel.
Torah Temimah: Yoma 43a
English: Why does the verse say “and they shall take… and he shall put”? If it had written “and he shall take and put,” I would have said one person must take and the same one put; it wrote “they shall take.” If “they shall take and they shall put,” I would have said two must take and two put; it wrote “they shall take and he shall put” — even if two take, one may put.
Inference from singular and plural verb forms.
The taking of the ashes and the placing into the water need not be done by the same person, and more than one may participate in the taking.
