Core Text of Chazal
Core Text
English: And all three derived from one verse: “And the man who is tahor and was not on a journey.” Rabbi holds: “and he refrained from offering the Pesach and [that soul] shall be cut off” — that he did not offer the first.
Type of Learning
Positive liability — the verse states the kares penalty for willful omission by one who was able.
What Is Learned
Ability without action triggers the severest consequence the Torah attaches to the Pesach.
