Parashas Bechukosai · Passuk context
I will walk among you and be your God, and you shall be My people.
Sifra, Bechukotai, Chapter 3:3 (Rashi on 26:12) — king and tenant-farmer in the orchard; future stroll with the righteous in Gan Eden.
English: “I will walk among you” — they told a parable: a king went out to stroll with his tenant-farmer in the orchard, and the farmer hid from him. The king said: Why do you hide from me? Behold, I am like you! So the Holy One is destined to stroll with the righteous in the Garden of Eden in the time to come; the righteous will see Him and tremble, and He will say to them: Behold, I am like you!
Parable / eschatological derasha — intimacy of the Shechinah without loss of awe.
The blessing culminates in shared walking: Hashem among Israel as among equals in Gan Eden, yet the parallel clause “I will be your God” preserves yirah so familiarity does not erase reverence.
