Sefaria

Chazal

English: Lest you say: there is food and there is drink, but if there is no peace, there is nothing — Scripture therefore states “I will grant peace in the land”; from here we learn that peace is equal in weight to everything. And so it says: “Who makes peace and creates all.”

Type of Learning

Structural / evaluative derasha — peace as the vessel that holds all other blessings.

What Is Learned

After promising sustenance, the Torah adds peace, teaching that without peace every material blessing is empty. Peace is not one gift among many; it is equal to the whole.
