E-Daf / source link
HebrewBooks / classical text
English: It was taught: Rabbi Levi said, Come and see that the measure of the Holy One is not like the measure of flesh and blood — for the Holy One blessed Israel with twenty-two blessings, from “If you walk in My statutes” until “upright,” and cursed them with (only) eight, from “If you reject My statutes” until “and My statutes their soul abhorred.”
Structural / numerical derasha — counting letters of the alphabet to contrast divine middah of reward vs. punishment.
Hashem’s attribute of good is greater than the attribute of punishment: the blessing section spans the full alef-beis (22), while the curse section is only eight letters long. Moshe’s tochacha in Devarim reverses the proportions.
