עַל תְּנוּךְ — יָכוֹל עַל תּוֹךְ וַדַּאי, תַּלְמוּד לוֹמַר עַל נוּךְ; אִי עַל נוּךְ יָכוֹל עַל גֹּבַהּ שֶׁל אֹזֶן, תַּלְמוּד לוֹמַר תּוֹךְ נוּךְ — זֶה גֶּדֶר הָאֶמְצָעִי.
English: “On the middle of [the ear]” — one might think the very inside; therefore it says “on the soft part.” One might think the top of the ear; therefore it says “the middle of the soft part” — this is the middle ridge of the ear.
