Core Text of Chazal

Core Text — Kerisos 10a

English: “And thirty days” — I might think [they count] whether consecutive or scattered. Scripture therefore says “day”: just as a day is consecutive, so the thirty must be consecutive.

Type of Learning

Gezeiras shavah / verbal analogy on “day” — the singular “day” attached to the thirty-day count forces the purity days to run as one unbroken block, not as interrupted fragments.

What Is Learned

The thirty-three pure days after the birth of a male are not a loose total that can be pieced together across interruptions. They must be consecutive. The same consecutive logic underpins the longer sixty-six-day pure period after a female birth. This unit is classic Torah Temimah stock — Bavli reading a Sifra-style precision into the count — and belongs on the silent passuk as EXTRA merit for the neshama of the author.
