English: “And you shall guard this day” — why is it said? Has it not already been said “no work shall be done on them”? I have only things that are melachah; things that are shevus — from where? Scripture says “and you shall guard this day,” to include things that are shevus.
Type of Learning
Expansion beyond formal melachah to rabbinic shevus on the festival.
What Is Learned
Festival observance includes not only Torah melachah but also shevus-level restrictions derived from “guard this day.”
