שִׁבְעַ֤ת יָמִים֙ מַצּ֣וֹת תֹּאכֵ֔לוּ אַ֚ךְ בַּיּ֣וֹם הָרִאשׁ֔וֹן תַּשְׁבִּ֥יתוּ שְּׂאֹ֖ר מִבָּתֵּיכֶ֑ם כִּ֣י ׀ כׇּל־אֹכֵ֣ל חָמֵ֗ץ וְנִכְרְתָ֞ה הַנֶּ֤פֶשׁ הַהִוא֙ מִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֔ל מִיּ֥וֹם הָרִאשֹׁ֖ן עַד־י֥וֹם הַשְּׁבִעִֽי׃

רַב נַחְמָן בַּר יִצְחָק אָמַר: רִאשׁוֹן — דְּמֵעִיקָּרָא מַשְׁמַע, דְּאָמַר קְרָא: ״הָרִאשׁוֹן אָדָם תִּוָּלֵד״.
English: Rav Nachman bar Yitzchak said: “First” means prior [to the festival], as Scripture says: “Are you the first man that was born?”
