English: On what did they dispute? On the time of haste. Rabbi Elazar ben Azarya held: What is “haste”? The haste of Egypt. And Rabbi Akiva held: What is “haste”? The haste of Israel.

Type of Learning

Dispute over the referent of chipazon: Egyptian midnight haste vs Israel’s morning departure.

What Is Learned

TT stresses the reading that chipazon is Israel’s own haste of departure, not only the Egyptians’ urgency.
