Core Text of Chazal

Core Text — Pesachim 41a

English: Rav Chisda said: One who cooks in the hot springs of Teveria on Shabbos is exempt; but a Pesach that one “cooked” in the hot springs of Teveria — one is liable, for he transgressed “roasted with fire.”

Type of Learning

Application of צְלִי אֵשׁ: natural hot water is not fire-heat.

What Is Learned

Heat from Teveria’s springs does not fulfill fire-roasting; one who prepares the Pesach that way is liable.
