Core Text of Chazal

Core Text — Berachos 9a

English: It comes to exclude another night. You might have thought: since the Pesach is light sanctity, and shelamim are light sanctity — just as shelamim are eaten for two days and one night, so the Pesach might be eaten for two nights… Therefore it teaches us “on this night” — it is eaten on this night and not on another night.

Type of Learning

Exclusionary derash of הַזֶּה: limits eating to the night of the fifteenth alone.

What Is Learned

The Pesach may be eaten only on the night of the fifteenth, not on a second night.
