The land of Egypt is before you; settle your father and your brothers in the best of the land — let them dwell in the land of Goshen. And if you know that there are capable men among them, put them in charge of my livestock.
English: “Settle your father and your brothers in the best of the land.” Rabbi Chiya said in the name of Rabbi Hoshaya: Why do we eat horseradish at Pesach? To tell you: just as horseradish begins sweet and ends bitter, so the Egyptians treated our ancestors in Egypt: at first, “settle your father and your brothers in the best of the land,” and finally, “they embittered their lives with hard labor, with mortar and bricks.”
