אָנֹכִ֗י אֵרֵ֤ד עִמְּךָ֙ מִצְרַ֔יְמָה וְאָנֹכִ֖י אַֽעַלְךָ֣ גַם־עָלֹ֑ה וְיוֹסֵ֕ף יָשִׁ֥ית יָד֖וֹ עַל־עֵינֶֽיךָ׃

I Myself will go down with you to Egypt, and I Myself will also bring you up again; and Yosef shall put his hand upon your eyes.

Core Text

אָנֹכִי אֵרֵד עִמְּךָ — מְלַמֵּד שֶׁכְּשֶׁיָּרְדוּ יִשְׂרָאֵל לְמִצְרַיִם יָרְדָה שְׁכִינָה עִמָּהֶם.

English: “I Myself will go down with you” — this teaches that when Yisrael went down to Egypt, the Shechinah went down with them.

On the daf / in context: The verse is the primary Torah source for the principle that the Shechinah accompanies Yisrael into exile.

Derash on the verse (Mekhilta / Bavli) — not a formal named middah of the 13.

Whenever Yisrael go into exile, the Shechinah goes with them.
